Takazawa Candle

On the 1st of January, one of the biggest earthquake hit Noto island, well known for Urushi lacquerware. Many of them were severely affected including my former partner Japanese candle producer, Takazawa Candle. The facade of their historical house collapsed completely.

Now their beautiful authentic Japanese candles came back to Onoda's assortment again, hoping that would support their restoration at least.

Just as the candles made by Haze, with whom I've been working with over years, candles by Takazawa are also made by hand with the traditional method using fruit of wax tree, Japanese Washi-paper, and dried rush plant: the level of the quality is as high as Haze's candles. Both producers have a spirit of ''creating new out of old'', yet without crossing over a border of authentication both material-wise and production-wise, which I find valuable. Takazawa challenges more in form and shape, whereas Haze more in colour and texture.
