Chinkin ''Kiku zume'' - Matcha Caddy
This Matcha caddy is embellished with chrysanthemum motifs rendered in traditional Chinkin technique in which fine lines and dots are carved into the surface and inlaid with gold powder.
Patterns are engraved on the surface, then Urushi lacquer laid into the engraved line. After that inserting gold powder into the engraved groove.
Crafted from natural wood and lacquer, this piece embodies the elegance and depth of Japanese tea culture. The intricate pattern of densely arranged chrysanthemums symbolizes longevity and refinement.

Meaning as ‘‘filled chrysanthemum’’, this Chinkin ‘‘Kiku zume’’ Matcha caddy is created with countless lines and dots shaped by the different blade shape, angle, and depth. This exquisite work is achieved by Hiroshi Ozeki, who is certificated as mastered artisan in traditional Chinkin craft by Akita prefecture, where 800 year-Urushi lacquerware tradition’s been living.
