Furoshiki
The history of Furoshiki dates back to 710: it was used to protect precious things. Later on, as the public bath became popular in Edo era (1600-1868), Furoshiki started to be used to wrap the belongings to distinguish from others.
At present time in Japan, Furoshiki became less common as accompanying to the public bath, but rather popular as gift wrapping, as fashion item like a scarf and a bag, or in the interior as a table cloth or a place mat etc.
