In Ancient Egypt, Kyphi is used as holy smoke and sacred perfume to cleanse the air and spirit.
In the oldest medical book in Egypt, Ebers Papyrus, it’s described, that Kyphi is made from about 16 natural ingredients. The receipt of Kyphi slightly varies depending on the perfumer - from this point of view, it can be said, that Khphi is considered as a type of incense rather than defined as one specific receipt.
Typical ingredients of Kyphi include cinnamon, peppermint, lemongrass, acacia, calamus, raisins, henna, juniper, pistachios, pine resin, cassia, orange, rose, honey, wine, myrrh, and frankincense.
